The Paradox of Politics

On one hand: Politics impacts a lot of people.  The decisions we make will matter for generations.  Many vulnerable groups will be helped or hurt by the actions we take.  We can’t just completely ignore politics and vote for the most attractive candidate or the first one listed on the ballot.

On the other: Politics makes a lousy god.  If we obsess over it, we will come away empty.  It is often inefficient.  When we focus too much on politics, we lose touch with our communities and the people doing the “real work” on the ground.

How we balance these two is a topic that would take many more words.  It is worth thinking about how we can keep ourselves from falling into whichever camp we are most tempted to be drawn to, though.
